DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Danville Utilities has received a peak power alert from Appalachian Power due to the cold weather forecast.

Danville Utilities requests its electric customers to conserve power from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday. The peak alert means that the demand on the system may be at its highest. According to the City of Danville’s Public Information Officer, cold weather forecasts are triggering the alert.

Peak alerts are only issued when necessary. This is the seventh peak alert made in 2016 and the first since the summer.

Customers can conserve power by lowering their thermostat, limiting the use of hot water, avoid doing laundry or using the dishwasher, turning off the lights and other electronics when not being used, and unplugging small appliances and chargers.
