City of Danville appoints new fire chief

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7)-- Danville has found its new fire chief.

According to a press release from the city of Danville, Dave Coffey comes to the helm with 25 years of experience with the fire department in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was picked from a pool of 54 national recruitment candidates.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Dave’s knowledge and experience coming in to lead our very accomplished Fire Department and Emergency Communication Center,” said community manager Ken Larking.

Fire Chief David Eagle retired in October, after serving for 12 years in that position, and as a Danville firefighter for 25.

Coffey expressed his excitement over his new responsibilities saying, "I look forward to the many new and rewarding relationships that I will develop over the coming years that will ensure the continued success of the Danville Fire Department.”

He will begin his duties January 6.
