DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) The NCAA Division III South Region baseball tournament is this weekend in Danville.
The games are being played at the Danville Braves stadium.
The Danville Braves staff, Averett University's staff and the city are elated to have this going on.
Averett's Director of Athletics says this just goes to show how well all entities of Danville can work together. The Danville Braves stadium has been voted as the best in the Appalachian League multiple times, making it a prime spot for the high-level tournament.
"The NCAA always looks for numerous universities across the country to host championships. It's a big deal, but it's also a lot of work to host a championship, so we partnered up and thought what a great opportunity for Danville. We brought in six teams from all over the country," Averett's Director of Athletics Meg Stevens said.
The six teams playing are No. 1 Salisbury, No. 2 LaGrange, No. 3 Rowan, No. 4 Emory, No. 5 Otterbein and No. 6 Roanoke College. The Maroons beat the number one seed on Thursday.
If you want to catch a game this weekend, visit the NCAA's website for game times.
