Danville pastor seriously injured after weekend shooting in NC

DURHAM, N.C. (WDBJ7) -- A Danville Pastor is in the hospital after a weekend shooting in Durham, North Carolina, at a Costco parking lot.

Now, two congregations in Southside are asking for prayers for the young pastor.

According to search warrants from the Durham Police Department, Ryan Ware, 24, was shot in the stomach Saturday afternoon while sitting in his car.

Durham Police took a wallet and cell phone from Ware's car and swabbed it for DNA and gunshot residue, according to a warrant. Witnesses told police they heard one gunshot and then a suspect in a gray/silver sedan fled the scene.

Ware's Facebook lists him as pastor of two Danville area churches -- Wesley Chapel United Methodist and Rock Springs United Methodist in Ringgold.

The Virginia conference of the United Methodist Church issued a statement Tuesday, seeking support.

"We ask you to join us in praying for his healing and for strength for his family and friends," the statement read.

Ware is a graduate student at Duke University's Divinity School.

Ware is in the hospital with serious injuries.
