Danville's gang violence prevention coordinator hopes to educate the public with his new book
Danville Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Coordinator, Robert David, hopes his new book, Gangs Vs. Kingdom: Battle for the Next Generation, will educate people on how gangs operate and spread.
David says the more people know about gangs, the more they can do to prevent gangs from impacting their communities.
"Not everybody grew up in the hood, not everybody understands that lifestyle and mind set so it gives them an opportunity to understand it." said David.
In his book, David says that gangs can often be viewed as a religion,
as a lot of young gang members grow up, looking up to someone who promises a lavish lifestyle, if they give their lives to a gang.
David believes that many people just look at the surface of gang members and not who they could be inside.
"Not every gang member is a murderer, not every gang member has a hard heart, these young 13 and 14-year-olds, some of those guys have a desire to change their life." said David.
With the number of gang relate homicides, two, down from where they were last year, David says the city is heading in the right direction.
David's book is available on Amazon.
