RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ7) -- UPDATE:
Governor Northam will provide a statement from the Executive Mansion at 2:30 p.m. following the recent yearbook photo controversy.
The Democratic Party of Virginia released a statement Saturday morning calling for the immediate resignation of Governor Ralph Northam.
At this time, Governor Northam has no immediate plans on resigning.
In the press release, Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Susan Swecker said, "We made the decision to let Governor Northam do the correct thing and resign this morning - we have gotten word he will not do so this morning."
Swecker went on to say that Northam no longer has the confidence or support of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
In the statement, Swecker said Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax has their support to replace Northam.
