Deputies remind drivers about bus safety

BOTETOURT, Va. (WDBJ7) The CDC reports one in every five children under the age of 15 who were killed in traffic crashes were pedestrians. Several districts go back to school; therefore police want to remind drivers to be more cautious. Some bus stops are typically in neighborhoods, but other major roadways. Drivers should stay alert for kids on waiting in the early morning hours. Before and after school deputies will increase their patrol around school zones.

"Slow as much as you can, especially in the residential areas, where the buses are picking students up, you never know what a young kid is going to do, run out into traffic or anything like that," said Sgt. Scott Gathje of Botetourt Sheriff Office.

Law enforcement want to remind all drivers to put down the cell phone especially teen drivers.
