ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) The Vinton Motors Building will begin to look very different. The mayor announced new plans for the building at Wednesday’s State of the Town address.
Brad Grose, Vinton Mayor, said, “I think it’s going to be a great addition to our downtown.”
Where you once could get a Ford, you’ll soon be able to get food. Local developers Dale Wilkinson and Billy Vinyard have plans to turn it into a mixed-use space, primarily a restaurant that hasn’t been announced yet. It’ll include other space for professional offices or retail.
Dale Wilkinson, Developer, said ,”It’s a project that’s exciting because it’s right in the heart of Vinton.”
Wilkinson is also behind other projects in Vinton, including the Roland E. Cook apartments.
“Oh yeah we bought a number of buildings and it isn’t much of a risk because this has always been a great community,” said Wilkinson.
It’s a community that has seen its share of success over the last year. With the reopening of the Lancerlot Sports Complex, as well as the return of off-track betting to the Colonial Downs site. Couple that with a new Macado’s, and the mayor says it’s a good time for the town.
Grose said, “We certainly don’t want to be known as the town that you drive through to get to another location. We want to be the go-to town.”
Wilkinson said, “And so this location is going to change dramatically in terms of aesthetic. It’ll be a great project.”
A project playing a part in creating a new downtown welcome.
Dale Wilkinson, Developer, said, “It’s sort of the heartbeat of Vinton. It’s right where a lot of things are occurring.”
Work is supposed to begin at the Vinton Motors Site in the spring and the developer hopes it’s all wrapped up by the spring of 2020.
