GOOCHLAND, Va. (WDBJ7) -- In a press conference Monday, police say the dogs responsible for the mauling death of Bethany Stephens in Goochland County have been euthanized.
County deputies recommended to the family after capturing the dogs that they be euthanized. The family agreed and gave permission for the euthanization.
The dogs were euthanized on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Their bodies have been preserved as evidence and investigators are following up with veterinarians and laboratories for potential forensic analysis.
The sheriff also said the dogs were not bred for fighting, seeking to clarify earlier statements.
