Downed fire line causes brush fire in Pittsylvania County

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) A fallen power line started a brush fire in Pittsylvania County Thursday.

The fire happened on U.S. 29 near Lakeside Drive just outside of Danville.

Multiple fire departments and the Department of Forestry responded to the fire.

The Department of Forestry said about two acres of land was burned.

The wind is what caused the sparked power line to spread.

"In high winds sometimes power lines can break, and can spark. When the humidity is really low and we haven't had rain for a while, even the tiniest spark can cause the brush to ignite and spread," says Pittsylvania County Area Forester, Mike Aherron.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Businesses on either side of the fire were not harmed either.

The Pittsylvania County public safety coordinator says 15 fires broke out in the county Thursday.
