Family displaced after fire destroys home in Elon

AMHERST Co., Va. (WDBJ7) -- An Amherst County family is displaced after a fire burned their home Saturday night.

It happened just after 6 p.m. on Bethel Ln. in the Elon area of the county.

When crews arrived, they found the two-story farm house covered in heavy smoke and fire.

Monelison Fire Department officials say the home is "not a hydrant area," so water had to be shuttled in from a nearby hydrant about two miles away.

A multi-agency response from Amherst Fire, Pedlar Fire, Amherst County Public Safety, Big Island Fire and the Amherst County Sheriff's Office helped contain the fire, officials say.

Fire officials say Concord Fire staffed Monelison Station 1 to cover any additional calls.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators say the fire was caused by "faulty electrical."
