ROANOKE, Va (WDBJ7) -- A three-year old boy remained in the hospital Wednesday, two days after he apparently shot himself.
A three-year old boy remained in the hospital Wednesday, two days after he apparently shot himself.
According to warrants obtained by WDBJ7, when police responded to the Westwood Terrace Apartments Monday night, they found the boy, A'Mir Crowder, in the kitchen, a gunshot wound visible on his forehead, and a gun "in plain view" nearby.
The mother told officers her child shot himself.
The three-year old required "immediate medical attention" and was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. At the scene, officers recovered, among other things, the gun, bullets, a toy gun, as well as money and scales.
Two days later, A'Mir Crowder's father, Trayvon, is still at a loss for words.
"This is not real. I think I'm still asleep," he said.
Crowder doesn't live at Westwood with A-Mir, and says he wasn't there Monday night. He says when he saw his son at the hospital, on Tuesday, he broke down.
"I was shedding tears. I held the bed, prayed over him, beside his bedside, like, I would say like 15 times, pacing in the room," he said.
Crowder says it's especially hard seeing his son curled up in a hospital bed, instead of by his side.
"It's a lot. It's a lot to take in," he said.
Crowder says there's no timeline on when A'Mir will be released from the hospital, but it could be months. He says his son is stable, and that doctors are doing what they can.
"They don't really have no direct answer but saying he's coming along. He's doing well," said Crowder.
Crowder is asking for prayers. "I basically just want everybody to pray for my little my little man, man. Like he just needs so much prayer," said Crowder.
Police are still investigating the incident.
