Crews responded to the fire at Rives Theatre on Church Street around 8:45 p.m. They saw flames coming out of the building, according to Martinsville Fire Chief Ted Anderson.

"This fire has a huge jump on us," Anderson said.

He said the fire had already burned through the building's attic and expected crews to stay at the scene all night.

The theatre was closed at the time the flames sparked, and no injuries have been reported.

No word yet what started the fire.
