Five churches unite to start Grace A LOT Clothing Closet

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) In Pittsylvania County a group of churches are uniting for a common goal.

Five churches have formed Grace A LOT Ministries, a non-profit aimed at helping people in need. Their first mission is a clothing closet.

"People take stuff to Goodwill and places like that, but now they can bring it to the Grace A LOT," says Grace A LOT Treasurer, Edward Pope.

The old Weal Presbyterian Church in Chatham has been transformed into a shopping and donation site for new and gently used clothes. Clothes for babies, kids, and adults.

The president of Grace A LOT says people shouldn't have to worry about clothes, when there's so much else to worry about.

"That's what the bible commands us to do and right now we are in a time when people just need a lot of help. Unemployment in this area is high," says Grace A LOT President, Lisa Wiebking. "With so much going on sometimes people just need a helping hand."

Anyone can come in and go through the clothes to find what they need.
They don't have to pay a dime.

"When people come in for a family of four it's $50, but it's not real money. It's like a $50 credit and that helps people to learn how to budget," says Wiebking.

Anyone can help the organization, which is a 501c3, non-profit.

"If you donate, or give funds, or whatever, it's tax-exempt, so I encourage people to give to this organization to try to help those that are sort of down on their luck," says Pope.

Volunteers are welcome, too. Neighbors helping neighbors.

"Help people get back up on their feet, to create a resilient and self-officiant community," says Wiebking.

The clothes closet is located at Weal Church,1500 Weal Road, Chatham.

It operates on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

All monetary donations are tax deductible. Provide donations to: Grace A Lot Ministries, P.O. Box 1152, Chatham, VA 24531.
