Former Northside football coach Burt Torrence indicted for embezzlement

ROANOKE CO., Va. (WDBJ7) Former Northside football coach Burt Torrence has been indicted by the Roanoke County Grand Jury for embezzlement.

Torrence has been charged with a total of 12 counts. The charges date back to 2012. They include four counts each of embezzlement of public funds, embezzlement, and obtaining money by false pretenses.

Torrence coached Northside for 10 seasons, leading the Vikings to state titles in 2009 and 2013. He had an overall record of 81-40. Torrence replaced legendary coach Jim Hickam back in 2006.

This past season, Torrence was an assistant coach for the Heritage High School football team. He has been placed on administrative leave with Lynchburg City Schools.

A warrant has been issued for Torrence.
