Former Virginia State Police trooper arrested on child pornography charges

SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Virginia State Police say one of their former troopers was arrested on child pornography charges on April 5.

Police say, Justin B. Hipps, 35, of Covington, Va., was arrested on one felony count of possession of child pornography. He was transported to the Alleghany County Jail.

Hipps was assigned as a trooper to Area 38 in the Salem Division in 2007, according to Sgt. Rick Garletts with the Virginia State Police.

Police say Hipps is no longer employed by the department.
