FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WTVR) – A James Monroe High School student collapsed and died Monday after playing basketball during gym class.
CBS-affiliate, WTVR reports that the teenager whose name has not been released at this time was immediately transported to Mary Washington Hospital where he died, said school principal Taneshia H. Rachal.
Rachal released a statement expressing the sadness felt throughout the school community, “This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school, especially our students.”
The school says they will make "every effort" to help students during the time through Crisis Intervention teams.
“At our school, we have counselors available for any student who may need or want help or any type of assistance surrounding this loss. We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources,” Rachal continues.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
