Friends wait for answers as Rocky Mount death investigation continues
The Medical Examiner’s Office and a neighbor have confirmed James Kirby was the man found dead Friday in Rocky Mount.
Officials are still trying to figure out exactly how Kirby died, leaving a lot of unanswered questions for those who knew the man.
“It’s still shocking to me,” neighbor Eddie Reynolds said.
Reynolds has known Kirby for 20 years. He said he is the one who found his friend dead inside his home on Mamie Street.
“I hope he died of natural causes. That’s all I got to say,” Reynolds said. “He deserved the best.”
Friday, Reynolds said he got a call from Kirby’s security company. He decided to go over and check on his friend, and that’s when he discovered the body.
“I am going to love him and miss him the rest of my life,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds described Kirby as a great friend and mentor.
“He made me strive to be the best that I could be,” Reynolds said. ”I mean, when I was homeless he was there for me.”
As friends and loved ones wait for the autopsy results, they hope more information will help them heal.
