BOONES MILL, Va. (WDBJ7) Mark Woods is always busy selling his produce and flowers at the market in downtown Roanoke. Mark, like many farmers, in our hometowns, use other resources to not only get more product to sell, but to sell any extra he may need to get rid of. One of those resources is the Foothills Produce Auction in Boones Mill.
“It's a place for people to come gather and talk to their friends and neighbors about, but it's also a place to sell their product,” Mark said.
You don't have to be a farmer like Mark, you can be a backyard gardener. So when your squash is growing out of control just take it to the auction.
“You can find from anything and everything here. Like now it's spring planting season. You've got your flowers and hanging baskets and then come later on you'll find peaches and strawberries and blueberries and blackberries. You name it, it's here,” Mark explained.
And if you have something to sell, it's easy to do.
“Show up before the auction. It starts at 9:30. I recommend to come 30 to 40 minutes before the auction starts. And you get a number and that number stays with you. It's your buyer's number and your seller's number. If you want to buy you get a number. If you want to sell you get a number, but it's the same number,” Mark said.
The auction is Tuesdays and Fridays until October.
“If you ain't here, you're gonna miss out,” Mark said.
The produce auction is located behind the Boones Mill Town Office.
359 Boones Mill Road, Building 1
Boones Mill, Virginia 24065
The auction is Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30 a.m.
