The Henry County Sheriff's Office is investigating the gunshot death of a woman Monday.

Someone called 911 shortly after 4:30 p.m. June 15 about a shooting outside the Dollar General store on Stone Dairy Road in Bassett. Deputies found a woman in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. Adrianne Martin, 37, of Snow Creek, was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No one has been arrested; the sheriff's office is looking into the circumstances of the shooting.

Anyone with information that might help the investigation is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff's Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).

Martin worked at Patrick Henry Community College, whose president, Dr. Angeline Goodwin, issued this statement:

Dear Patriots, we must share the confirmation of the tragic passing of our own Adrianne Martin. While we do not have the exact details, we certainly know that Adrianne was a ray of sunshine on our campus, and she will be missed tremendously. She supported efforts across campus, especially athletics, special events, and anywhere a helping hand was needed. I often teased her that she was PHCC's permanent head cheerleader. Her campus #PHamily has suffered a tremendous loss. We offer our deepest condolences to her entire family, but we want to especially send our love and prayers to her two beloved children. They were her heart, and she glowed when she talked about them. We will have an opportunity to collect a love gift for the children as well. Arrangements will be shared as soon as they are available. As soon as it is possible and appropriate, our PHCC #PHamily will celebrate and memorialize Adrianne's life and legacy as a true Patriot. We love her, and we will miss her.
