HARDY, Va. (WDBJ7) Caitlin Francis is enjoying Hometown Adventures at Smith Mountain Lake all summer long.
She went to The Westlake just in time for at Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, and if you’re hanging out by the lake this summer, you don’t have to go far to feel like Bubba Watson.
“Hopefully people can catch what they see on tv and decide that hey maybe I do want to try that out,” said head golf professional at The Westlake, Billy McBride. “This golf community has brought a lot of people in here just because of the way the golf course is. It’s one of the best conditioned golf courses in this area. So I think when people play it they enjoy coming out here, and enjoy the scenery as well, because it is a very pretty golf course as well.”
And it’s public, which means you can sign up for a tee-time, any time.
“We try to get people to either come out and play 9 holes, they can play 18 holes, they can use the driving range, they can go and put on the putting green,” McBride said.
And if you’re green to the sport, you can take some lessons. They just require players to wear a golf shirt and tennis shoes, no cut off shorts.
They want the tradition of golf to stay alive, but McBride wants people to know it’s a lot less stuffy than you might think, and a lot more fun.
“It’s a place to get away.”
