Hometown Eats: Lucy Kat's Diner in Roanoke

By  |

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) There's a spot in Garden City that the locals say is Roanoke's best kept secret. The name may have changed a few times over the decades, but Lucy Kat's Diner is a hit!

Featuring homemade, southern-style cookin', Lucy Kat's is sure to have something for everyone.

Owner Kathryn Robertson is using her grandmother's recipes to wow the crowds.

“I started out in healthcare and ventured over to this, and my grandmother always said that if she had a little hole in the wall, that she could make a living. So this is my chance with my little hole in the wall," Robertson said.

Two of the best sellers here are their potato cakes and a burger called the Yellow Mountain Burger.

The burger features a pepper relish made from peppers Robertson's husband grows at home. The relish contains both scorpion and ghost peppers, which makes it very, very hot.

"It’s spicy but its got a lot of flavor. They’re growing the peppers here locally and taking a lot of time to make it, and it’s really popular,” said WDBJ7's Josh Birch.

They also are known for delicious homemade desserts.

Lucy Kat's Diner is located at 3808 Yellow Mountain Rd SE, Roanoke, VA 24014. Their phone number is (540) 427-4750.
