I-81 holiday traffic stays bumper to bumper
Many people hate traveling on the holidays, and for good reason.
Interstate 81 was a sea of tail lights all day Sunday and into the evening.
Gloria Lakner and her husband braved the holiday traffic because they are moving from Maryland to Knoxville, Tennessee, but were quickly regretting making that drive Sunday.
"We have gone between five and ten miles an hour for three hours," said Lakner.
Not only was the traffic frustrating; she said it was often scary.
"We have seen many accidents along the way, some pretty severe and some not so severe but still both sides of the highway are blocked because of rubbernecking and people looking," said Lakner.
At WDBJ7, we reported five crashes along the interstate Sunday, including a multi-vehicle crash that caused backups for miles.
Lakner said even though a trip that should take them nine hours will take them thirteen, they are going to remain in good spirits.
"It's Thanksgiving, we're very blessed, and as long as we get there safe then we're okay", said Lakner.
