Icy precipitation leads to slushy situation on Roanoke Valley roads

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Interstate 581 wasn't covered with snow Saturday evening, but a layer of ice began to build up as the sleet and freezing rain continued to fall.

In downtown Roanoke, roads were covered with pellets of ice.

But restaurants were open, and people were making the best of a slushy situation.

Justin Yun's business closed early because of the weather. We caught up with him, while he was walking his dog Winnie.

"When you live downtown, everything's walking distance," Yun told WDBJ7, "so it' s not bad."

Kyle Maurer and Michael Poole were meeting friends.

"Having fun downtown, enjoying the time even though it's bad weather," Poole said.

"You've got to make the best of the bad times," Maurer added.
