Numerous roads are covered in snow and ice in the New River Valley, after snow bands moved through Tuesday.
Parts of Route 8 in Montgomery County were shutdown due to the dangerous conditions.
Several backups along Interstate 81 have also been reported as snow bands continue to blow into the region Tuesday night.
"Any snow and ice we see on the roads tonight, will still be there in the morning," explains WDBJ7 Chief meteorologist Brent Watts. "Temperatures will get down into the teens tonight and only warm to the low 30s Wednesday, so expect very little melting."
Dozens of schools have decided to delay or close due to the dangerous combination of snow as well as the extreme cold.
"Dangerous wind chills are the more widespread issue. It will feel like 5° to -10° early Wednesday morning."
