HARRISONBURG, Va (WDBJ7) The JMU Marching Band, also known as the Marching Royal Dukes, got some exciting news at halftime during today's football game.

Leaders from Macy's were in Harrisonburg to announce the marching band will be performing in their 2018 Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It's the fourth time since 2001 that the Marching Royals Dukes have been selected.

Students in the band say they can't wait for the experience.

"My mom marched it in her high school band. My sister marched it when she was in the MRD here. So being able to be a part of that, especially during my senior year, it's going to be bitter sweet but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity," Junior Colette Holland said.

"To actually be in New York in the parade, my family's going to be in New York with us. It's just going to be absolutely incredible, I'm so excited," Sophomore Adam Miller added.

The band says they'll begin practice for next year's parade soon.
