BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Bedford County Public Schools is addressing an investigation into Jefferson Forest High School by the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights.

In a statement released Friday evening, the school system indicated that earlier in 2019 it became aware of an investigation into "an alleged racially hostile environment" at Jefferson Forest.

A specific incident was not indicated in the statement.

Bedford County Public Schools has entered into a resolution agreement with the Office of Civil Rights, according to the statement.

BCPS said it firmly believes it has not violated any federal civil rights laws.
