ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) July 1st will bring another milestone for the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
That's when the medical school will officially become part of the University, as the 9th college of Virginia Tech.
Founding Dean Cynda Johnson says the designation will open the door to new opportunities.
"We have great research going on. There will be more research collaborations possible," Johnson told WDBJ7. "We've talked about combined degrees with the other colleges and all kinds of work we can do, perhaps some work with cooperative extension, rural work. The sky's the limit I think."
Johnson says it's always been the plan to become a full college of Virginia Tech, and she says the partnership with Carilion Clinic remains strong.
