Layoffs announced at ACE Insurance in Salem

SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) Word of layoffs came Wednesday morning at ACE Insurance in Salem.

People who were leaving the building around noon told WDBJ7 their jobs were terminated.

One woman, Jean Scales, said about 60 employees lost their jobs effective sometime in mid-to-the-end of December.

Scales has been with the company for 37-years in the document management department. She said these layoffs were not unexpected.

“Things have been going on for months that led me to believe that at some point the jobs were going to be eliminated,” Scales said. And she added, “We care about this company, even going out.”

WDBJ attempted to get in touch with ACE corporate communications. No one has returned our messages yet, but we will be working to get more information on these layoffs.
