Local emergency declared for Carroll County ahead of Florence

CARROLL CO., Va. (WDBJ7) A local emergency has been declared for Carroll County.

The Local Emergency went into effect at noon in response to forecasted extreme weather conditions.

Officials in Carroll County say they will receive significant rainfall this evening through Monday, possibly causing flash floods, downed trees, and power outages.

They say they’re prepared to open shelters in various locations, and they’re urging residents to stay alert.

They will sent alerts out through Nixle on shelter status and locations.

There’s a shelter already open at the VFW in Hillsville, and if anyone requires transportation to the shelter, residents can call the Emergency Operations Center at (276) 730-2999.
