ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - One local doctor is helping others get colonoscopies this Colon Cancer Awareness Month. After her father died from Colon Cancer, Doctor Lindsey Bierle is committed to spreading colon cancer awareness.
Carilion Clinic has helped her to set up a Colon Cancer Week in the Internal Medicine Clinic. They are raising money to partially pay for screening colonoscopies for patients in the Roanoke Valley that otherwise wouldn't have the financial means.
The fundraiser is named after her and her father--say goodBIERLE to Colon Cancer.
"Shortly before he died I talked to him and said, you know, I really wanted to start to make some sort of an impact so that we can prevent this from happening in the future," Lindsay Bierle, an Internal Medicine Resident at Carilion, said.
