ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) After many people spent a long weekend shopping, non-profits in the Roanoke Valley were hoping their supporters would embrace 'Giving Tuesday.'
The Ronald McDonald House in Roanoke was just one of many organizations in our area raising money and awareness.
During an open house Tuesday, for example, employees of TMEIC presented a check for $20,000.
Steve Pardon is Vice President of the Ronald McDonald House Board.
"One day is awesome and we try to get as much support as we can, because obviously we're closing out a year," Pardon told WDBJ7, "but really the most important thing that we're doing here today is raising awareness so hopefully throughout the entire year, people will think about the Ronald McDonald House."
The charity will also benefit from the sale of Christmas trees, poinsettias and wreaths during the Christmas Magic fundraiser Saturday at Black Dog Salvage.
