ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) Roanoke police prepare to say goodbye to longtime investigator Allen Michael Williams.
Williams died in his sleep Sunday after a battle with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease.
The 61-year-old father was a lifelong public servant, retiring from Roanoke Police department after more than three decades. He also worked for area rescue departments and as an arson investigator.
He retired from RPD less than a year ago.
"He worked for 37 years and had a very short return on the career that impacted so many people in the Valley," Chief Tim Jones said. "We'll miss him."
