Summer break for kids is almost here, and parents have to decide how to keep them safe and entertained for the next couple of months.

Roanoke County Parks and Recreation has lots of ideas. In fact, it offers more than 175 weeks of summer camps for kids ages three to 17.

"We have day camps intended for working parents," says Scott Ramsburg with Roanoke County Parks and Recreation. "We have overnight camps at Camp Roanoke, half day programs that are either athletic- based or themed or arts and crafts, even programs for little ones, mini ones for that three to five year old set. So, a lot to choose from."

The newest option this year is at Explore Park, with day camps designed for elementary and middle schoolers.

"This year, we've added specialty camps that are outdoor based, including a kayaking program, a mountain biking program and an outdoor archery program there," says Ramsburg.

He adds that the summer camp experience offers children a chance to get outside and connect with other kids.

Prices vary, depending on the length of the camp.

Full-day Roanoke County camps range from $150 to $175 a week.

Half-day programs run from $75 to $100.

As for overnight camps, the cost is anywhere from $300 to $450 per week.
