NORFOLK, Va. (WDBJ7)-- One of Lynchburg's finest was honored Saturday with a prestigious award given for his excellence in providing prehospital care.

Fire Captain Chris Adams, of the Lynchburg Fire Fighters Association and A-Shift EMS Supervisor for the Lynchburg Fire Department, was awarded the Governor's Award for Outstanding Prehospital Provider Saturday. This award is given by the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (VAOEMS) at the Annual Virginia EMS Symposium in Norfolk. This year was the 40th installment of the ceremony.

According to the Lynchburg Fire Fighters Association, this is the second time a Lynchburg firefighter has been recognized with this award since 2016. During the last decade, Lynchburg has the only agency to show repeat awards for Outstanding Prehospital Provider.

Captain Adams is a 25-year veteran of the Lynchburg Fire Department, and one of the original Advanced Practice Paramedics in the region. He was a flight paramedic with Centra One, and has been an EMS Education Preceptor for the Central Virginia Community College Public Safety Programs, giving knowledge to future paramedics.
