LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Lynchburg's law enforcement community is celebrating the completion of a program that's providing life skills training for people with special needs.

Lynchburg's Growth Through Opportunity apprenticeship program held its 20-19 graduation ceremony Friday afternoon.

Now in its second year, Lynchburg's GTO program gives participants a chance to learn career skills while training with police, firefighters, jailers and sheriff's deputies.

"The reason it's so significant and makes a difference is because we're working together for a common goal, to influence and make a difference in these young men's lives," said Lynchburg Sheriff Don Sloan. "They influence and make a difference in our lives, so it's just a great win-win for all of us."

Two cadets graduated from the GTO program Friday.
