LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The Lynchburg Humane Society is taking in pets forced out before the storm in Florida.

They are taking in 30 dogs from the Jacksonville Humane Society in Jacksonville, Fla.

"Knowing that Florida is going to be hit, they wanted to evacuate the current shelter pets to make room for those pets that would end up being brought to them," explained Makena Yarbrough, the executive director of the Humane Society.

The pups were brought up by a transport vehicle and met by humane society workers and volunteers to travel back to Lynchburg.

The humane society is encouraging residents to adopt or foster their current pets to help make space.
