With the start of school about a week away, Lynchburg City Schools are providing a day of fun.

The school system hosted its second annual back to school celebration at Miller Park.It event was open to all students. It featured food, music, giveaways and various other activities for kids.

Program Coordinator Ethel Reeves says it's a time for families to come together and see the schools in a different light.

"Lynchburg City Schools recognizes that without our families our students are not a successful," Reeves said. "So we believe that it’s important that our families remain engaged and supporting and that we make a connection that’s meaningful so that we can really reach our goal of every child by name and by need to graduation.”

The celebration even provided assistance for those still needing to register for school as well as advice and tips on bus safety.
