Lynchburg emergency responders warning about heroin laced with elephant tranquilizer

LYNCHBURG, Va. Emergency responders in Lynchburg are warning the community about a deadly trend they have been seeing.

The Lynchburg Fire and Police Departments released information citing multiple deaths from heroin laced with the drug carfentanil, which is a tranquilizer used on large animals like elephants.

“The public should be aware of the existence of this drug and the real potential that its use will lead to death. No high is worth losing your life over” said Lynchburg Fire Department Interim Deputy Chief, Heather Childress.

There is also a danger to those who simply come in contact with this drug because of its potency.
