LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7)— Lynchburg's newest food cooperative, Grassroots Local Market, has received a $25,000 loan from the Lynchburg Area Development Corporation (LADC) in financing to assist in the cooperative's opening during the summer of 2018.
Grassroots Local Market is a community-owned natural food grocery store that is set to open in Downtown Lynchburg this summer. The cooperative will be open to the public with an aim of providing convenient and healthy food options to the Lynchburg community, according to a release.
In a statement released Monday, the LADC Board said they are long-time supporters of the community-owned grocery. In this statement, the LADC Board said, "Grassroots Local Market is a critical service needed to continue the successful development of Downtown Lynchburg. We are pleased to announce $25,000 in financing to assist Grassroots in opening this summer."
Grassroots Local Market says they've already reached their fundraising goal to open this summer, but the cooperative grocery store is still accepting memberships. If you're interesting in learning more about the cooperative or about getting a membership, you can click here.
