Lynchburg organization launches resource network to assist families

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Violence in one Lynchburg neighborhood has led people living in that area to take action.

Carl Gordon is founder of the Lynchburg Virginia Resoruce Network, a group dedicated to helping young people find productive activities that will keep them away from gangs and violence.

The organization formed a few months ago, following several shootings in the Fairview Heights neighborhood.

This week the group launched a website, where families can learn about youth-oriented clubs and activities in one location.

"There are a lot of organizations designed to help our youth that a lot of people don't know about," said Gordon. "People have a short attention span. When they're looking for something on the Internet, they want to find it right now or they become disinterested. Our website will help in that regard."

The Lynchburg Virginia Resource Network website can be found at:

Members of the resource network plan to meet twice a month at the Fairview Heights Community Center to keep looking for ways to improve their neighborhood.
