Lynchburg police investigate series of burglaries around Fifth Street

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The Lynchburg Police Department is seeking the public’s aid in an investigation of a string of store burglaries in recent days.

Lynchburg Police are looking for a suspect who attempted to break into Grey's restaurant by breaking a glass door with a brick.

According to a news release, Lynchburg Police Officers were dispatched Wednesday to a reported burglary at 408 Federal Street at the Family Dollar. Upon arrival, they found a broken window which had been used to gain entry. LPD criminal investigations and forensic units responded to assist with the case.

Several items of merchandise were stolen, including a significant amount of tobacco products, the release stated.

It was the fourth reported commercial burglary or attempted burglary in the past two weeks along the Fifth Street corridor, police stated. Each of them occurred at night and appear to be related:

May 3: – Family Dollar, 408 Federal St., was broken into by breaking a window

May 9: Connie’s Convenience Store, 406 Fifth St., was broken into by breaking a glass door

May 12, 2019: Grey’s restaurant – 512 Fifth St., an attempt was made to break a glass door with a brick.
