UPDATE: Suspicious package in Lynchburg was a cooler; scene cleared

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The scene has been cleared.

The suspicious package was a cooler that had a padlock on it. It was left in a parking space along 12th Street.

Police located the owner, who confirmed that the cooler belonged to him.

No threat was detected.

Lynchburg police have re-opened Main and 12th Streets.


Lynchburg police are investigating a suspicious package on Tuesday morning.

Police are asking people to avoid the area of 12th Street and Commerce Street. The area of 13th Street and Commerce Street is also shut down.

The city sent out an alert at 8:16 a.m.
