Lynchburg police investigating fatal three vehicle crash

The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that happened on Route 501 Sunday.
The Lynchburg Police Department and Lynchburg Fire and EMS responded to an accident on Route 501 in the area of Wiggington Road at 6 p.m Sunday.
Lynchburg police say three vehicles were involved including a 2000 GMC 1500 pickup truck driven by 26-year-old Jared Sumner of Amherst. The second vehicle involved in the crash was a 2007 Jeep Wrangler pulling a utility trailer driven by 39-year-old Christopher Arrington of Lynchburg. Lynchburg police say the third vehicle involved in the crash was a 2011 Chevrolet Impala driven by 29-year-old Takeysha Gibson of Lynchburg.
The Lynchburg Police Department says the GMC truck, driven by Sumner, was traveling south on Route 501 when it crossed the center line. The truck then struck both the Jeep and the Chevrolet Impala, which were both heading north on Route 501.
According to Lynchburg police, the driver of the GMC truck, Jared Sumner, died at the scene.
Police say there were three people total inside the two other vehicles and they were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with minor injuries.
Lynchburg police are still investigating.
