Bryan L. Porter, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Alexandria, has been appointed to investigate the shooting in conjunction with the Virginia State Police, according to a statement from the office of Lynchburg Commonwealth's Attorney Bethany Harrison.

Lynchburg police said their officers shot and injured a man inside a home in the 2100 block of Link Road around 1:15 Saturday morning. Neighbors told WDBJ7 the man who was shot was Walker Sigler, the owner of the home where the shooting occurred.

The statement from Harrison's office indicated the city's top prosecutor has determined that a full investigation of last weekend's events would be better conducted by a Commonwealth’s Attorney outside of the area.

"Mrs. Harrison has a long-standing working relationship with one of the officers involved in the use of force," read the statement from Harrison's office. "In the interest of ensuring an objective and impartial review of this case, Mrs. Harrison requested the appointment of a substitute prosecutor as authorized by the Code of Virginia."
