LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Main Street Eatery in Lynchburg has announced its shutting down.

The owners posted a message on the restaurant’s Facebook page Friday night announcing the closure. "It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that we are closing. Serving the Lynchburg community has been one of the greatest privileges and we thank this community for supporting us for over 20 years. Even though we are closing, we want to end December on a high note. So, if you've never been to the Eatery, we encourage you to give us a try and enjoy our European inspired menu! If you're a regular, come and hang out with us, we would love to spend this last week sharing memories with you!"

The restaurant was founded in 1997 by Chef Urs Gabathuler and has been at its location on 907 Main St. for 22 years.

A reason for Main Street Eatery’s closure was not available.

The post said the store will close at the end of business day on Wednesday, Dec. 11. "We love you, Lynchburg, and we cannot thank you enough for the support that you have given us over the years!"
