LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7)-- Over the span of two years, Lynchburg's River Ridge Mall will continue to be reimagined, starting with the center court area. According to information from the marketing department of the mall, that area of the indoor shopping center will eventually offer an amphitheater, kiosk with food and drinks, cell phone charging locations and more.

All national retail stores in that area will remain open during this process. New flooring, seating, greenery and other architectural elements will come together in the freshly renovated "Great Space."

This phase is planned to begin in late June, and will run through mid-November of this year. The rest of the indoor elements will be restarted in the beginning of 2020.

According to the released information, "Future plans for the center include demolition of the two previous department store buildings, which will be replaced by a mix of national, regional and local retailers, entertainment uses and restaurants."

The property outdoors will also get some new features, however those plans are still under consideration.
