ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- A man is being held at the Roanoke City Jail after authorities said he interfered with a traffic stop and kicked an officer.

It happened around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 581N near exit 3C.

A Roanoke County officer stopped a driver who was speeding.

During the stop, officials said a man in another car pulled behind the police car.

The officer asked the man, later identified as Matthew Brunstetter, what he was doing. Authorities said he did not answer, and took a combative stance.

Officials said the officer distanced himself and pointed a taser at Brunstetter. He complied and the taser was not used.

Authorities said while Brunstetter was being handcuffed for safety reasons he kicked the officer twice.

Brunstetter was arrested for felony assault on a police officer and taken to jail without further incident.
