Man arrested with meth after trying to escape police in Radford

RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7)-- A man has been arrested in Radford after a chase leads an officer to crash his car in a ditch.

On Thursday, Radford City Police tried to stop Steven M. Parks, 36, of Radford, in the 500 Block of Rock Road. Parks then began to try and escape the officer, as the police vehicle kept following behind in pursuit.

After moving to I-81 S at exit 105, the driver then left I-81 at exit 101 and proceeded onto Wilderness and Lyon Roads.

The officer in pursuit crashed his vehicle in a ditch, and Parks attempted to escape on foot. Radford City Police and Virginia State Police captured the suspect, and no injuries were reported.

Steven M. Parks has been charged with driving on a suspended license after previously being suspended for a DUI (misdemeanor), eluding a police officer (felony), and possession with intent to distribute Methamphetamine (felony).

He was brought to New River Valley Regional Jail with no bond.
