Man charged with second-degree murder after fatal shooting in Gladys

The Campbell County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened in Gladys Friday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the 8000 block of Red House Road in Gladys regarding someone being shot. When deputies arrived to the scene, they discovered a dead man.

Samuel Dawson, 55, of Rustburg died from gunshot wounds.

Deputies arrested Ralph Ramsey, 63, of the 8000 block of Red House Road. Ramsey is being held in the Campbell County Adult Detention Center without bond. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

Dawson and Ramsey knew each other and owned properties in the area where the shooting happened.

The investigation is ongoing.

The sheriff's office is holding a press conference Saturday morning on the front steps of their building on 87 Courthouse Lane in Rustburg at 10 a.m. The sheriff's office will give updates on the fatal mobile home fire in Gladys that happened Dec. 18 and updates on the fatal shooting on Red House Road in Gladys.
